Abstract

Introduction: The increase of the accessibility to Internet and technology in the Cuban university context has caused an increment in its use and, associated to it, the appearance of academic problems in the students. This makes that arise the necessity to have a validated instrument that it allows to explore how the cyberaddiction is manifest in the Cuban university context. Objective: To evaluate the psychometric properties that it presents the adapted version of the Internet Addiction Test for the Cuban university context. Method: The sample was composed of 740 university students from 36 careers than belong to 11 faculties of the Central University “Marta Abreu” of Las Villas, in ages between 17 and 47 years old (SD=3.324). The Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analysis and the reliability analysis were used. Results: A structure of two factors was determined, the first one denominated Interference in the interpersonal relationships and the second one Lack of control and avoidance of the reality. This factorial structure demonstrated appropriate psychometric properties for the university context. Conclusions: The results indicate that the instrument possesses a two-factor factorial structure and appropriate psychometric properties for the selected sample, what allows its use for the study of the cyberaddiction in the worked context.
