Experiencia y percepción de estigma relacionado con el VIH en varones con orientación homosexual

Resumen

Antecedentes: El estigma relacionado con el VIH se asocia a consecuencias negativas para la salud y calidad de vida de las personas. Interactúa con estigmas preexistentes, como el relacionado con la orientación sexual, lo que intensifica su impacto perjudicial. Objetivo: El objetivo fue describir cómo se expresa el estigma relacionado con el VIH en Buenos Aires, Argentina, desde la perspectiva de varones cisgénero con orientación homosexual, y cómo éste es experimentado por ellos. Método: Se desarrolló un estudio cualitativo con entrevistas a 14 participantes, analizadas a partir de los mecanismos del estigma: experimentación, anticipación e internalización. Resultados: El estigma experimentado se observó, principalmente, como rechazo directo en las relaciones sexo-afectivas, divulgación del diagnóstico sin consentimiento de la persona y distancia o evitación del contacto con ella. El estigma anticipado se expresó como temor a ser discriminado, no revelación del diagnóstico a otros y autoexclusión. El estigma internalizado se evidenció como autoconcepto negativo, vergüenza y culpa. Se observan interacciones entre los estigmas por VIH y por orientación sexual. Conclusiones: Estos resultados permiten avanzar en caracterizar la experiencia de estigma relacionado con el VIH en Buenos Ares, lo que contribuye al diseño de intervenciones para su reducción ajustadas a la cultura y necesidades de este grupo específico.
