Resumen

El estudio de la transhumancia andina comenzó, en un sentido, en el sitio mesolítico de Star Carr, donde cazadores recolectores maglemoisienses invernaban después de una estación de caza de ciervos en los pantanos de Yorkshire o en la cresta de 426 m (1400 pies) en los Apeninos. La escala es distinta, pero la cronología (períodos Preboreal y Boreal), la economía (intensificada, amplio espectro de caza y recolección) y la aproximación arqueológica son similares. Las excavaciones de G. Clark en Star Carr, desde 1949 hasta 1951, dieron la pauta para estudiar al hombre como un ente móvil, aunque ecológicamente sea una parte integrada a su medio ambiente regional (Clark 1972a, 1972b).
